Having melee weapons on standby is equally imperative, giving you something to fall back on when your gun clicks empty and the horde is closing in. A typical mission has you warding off hordes of the undead with whatever tools come to hand, from automatic rifles to melee weapons such as clubs, knives and meat cleavers.ĭead Island: Riptide is not so much a sequel as a standalone expansion to its predecessor that improves on little of its shortcomings and spurns the opportunity to build on its potential. Much of the experience is built around combat and this is thankfully Dead Island: Riptide's forte. Characterisation is certainly not Dead Island: Riptide's strong point, with the five playable heroes coming across as the kind of stereotypical fodder that wouldn't last five minutes if this was a horror movie, but it's your job to ensure they survive a good deal longer. ![]()
